Your chariot awaits!

Environmentally-friendly weddings are on the rise as every aspect of your nuptials—from the location to the decorations—can be green. While you don’t have to go to extremes to make your wedding eco-friendly, you can still plan the perfect green marital ceremony and reception. Here are a few a tips for throwing your ideal wedding that won’t leave a massive carbon footprint.

Eco-friendly Venues and Vendors

The venue is the most important part of any marital ceremony; however, most indoor event spaces like ballrooms and reception halls aren’t the best for the environment.  Alternatively you could choose a venue that doesn’t use a lot of electricity, water and other products that are harmful to the earth. Opt for an outdoor location, such as a garden or on a farm, to exchange vows. Try having your wedding and reception in the same place to avoid the need to travel from one location to the next. Having your wedding during the daytime also helps cut back on electricity usage, and there are plenty of green hotels that offer energy-efficient appliances and biodegradable products. While you may not be able to get away with or afford serving a three-course vegan or vegetarian meal, having an environmentally-friendly menu is not out of your reach. Although organic foods are more costly, make the food and beverages you serve green by going with caterers, chefs, and bakers who use locally grown foods and organic alternatives. In addition, opt for in-season produce as most out-of-season fruits and vegetables are grown in heated greenhouses, which use electricity and fuel for transportation.

Green Decorations and Accessories

Be creative and innovative while protecting the environment. Avoid using
paper products that are made of non-recycled materials or skip the paper
altogether by incorporating non-paper goods like e invites for save-the-dates. Try
favors & invitations that have seeds embedded in them that your guests can plant.
Although you may think that your bridal bouquet and other floral arrangements
are the last thing you need to be concerned about when it comes to making your
wedding green, using certain flowers can do more harm than good. Pass on
flowers that are out of season and have to be shipped or choose seasonal
replicas that aren’t doused in chemicals or grown under harsh working
conditions. Use seasonal flowers and decorative
pieces, to decorate your venue and walk down the aisle with —a brilliant way  to be green.
